Laser Engineer / Technician
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting in the installation, alignment, calibration, and maintenance of infrared gas laser systems.
- Conducting system performance tests, collecting data, and assisting in troubleshooting laser and sub-system issues.
- Supporting experimental setups and contributing to ongoing laser development and optimization projects.
- Performing optical metrology and diagnostics under supervision of senior staff.
- Ensuring compliance with laser safety protocols and laboratory procedures.
- Documenting laboratory activities and results clearly and accurately.
- Collaborating with engineering, R&D and operations teams to achieve technical objectives.
- Will serve as Laser Safety Officer.
Education, Qualifications & Required Skills
Required
- Hands-on experience with lasers, optics or related technical systems (academic or industrial).
- Familiarity with basic laser principles, alignment techniques, optical diagnostics and safety protocol as related to the use of lasers.
- Strong mechanical and problem-solving skills for laboratory work.
- Team-oriented with effective communication skills.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering or related technical field (or equivalent lab experience).
- 5+ years of practical experience working in a laboratory with lasers, optics or precision equipment preferred.
Security & Work Authorization
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-clearance.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen under 10 CFR Part 810 and/or export control requirements (ITAR/EAR) as applicable.
Working Conditions
- Onsite role – Oak Ridge, TN.
- Monday – Friday, Full Time; Occasional overtime is expected for ensuring deliverables.
- Ability to perform field work (stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, don PPE, lift~30–50 lbs. occasionally).

UF6 Process Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Senior Chemical/Process/Nuclear Engineer to join our team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the handling of UF6 gas, with expertise in UF6 corrosion-resistant components, vacuum technologies, process design and safety documentation.

UF6 Process Engineer
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and executing UF6-related chemical and nuclear engineering projects, including process design, safety basis documentation and operational readiness reviews.
- Providing support to prepare and review licensing and safety documentation for compliance with DOE, NRC and other regulatory agencies.
- Designing, developing, and overseeing mechanical systems such as UF6 gas handling systems, including vacuum pumps, valves, piping, etc, and other uranium processing equipment and chemical separation systems.
- Performing and overseeing NQA-1 calculations, P&IDs, and PFDs for nuclear facilities.
- Providing technical guidance for facilities such as the Y-12 National Nuclear Security Complex and the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant.
- Developing and implementing solutions for the startup and operation of hazardous waste treatment and uranium processing systems.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure operational and critical safety standards are maintained.
- Conducting vendor evaluations and oversee procurement engineering for nuclear-grade components.
Education, Qualifications & Required Skills
Required
- Education: Masters’ or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or similar.
- Experience: Minimum of 15+ years of relevant experience in chemical, process and nuclear engineering.
- Extensive hands-on experience with UF6 and UF6-rated equipment (i.e. vacuum pumps, valves, piping, etc), as well as operational readiness reviews.
- Experience in process modeling to calculate or predict flow rates, pressures, conductance, etc in a UF6 gas handling system/P&ID.
- Experience with DOE and NRC regulatory frameworks.
Preferred
- Strong expertise in uranium chemistry and enrichment processes (centrifuge and laser).
- Proficient in process equipment design, safety analysis and NQA-1 compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects in both technical and leadership capacities.

Key Responsibilities
Health and Safety
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining site-wide EHS programs (industrial safety, chemical hygiene/HazCom, electrical and LOTO, machine guarding, ergonomics, confined space, hot work, fall protection, PPE, etc).
- Owning the laser safety program (Class 3B/4), including hazard evaluations, Laser Controlled Area management, SOPs, interlocks/engineering controls and training in alignment with ANSI Z136.1; serve as or supervise the LSO.
- Interacting with TOSHA to ensure LIST remains complaint with workplace safety and health in the state of Tennessee.
- Leading incident investigations (root cause, corrective/preventive actions), risk assessments, JSAs/JHAs and behavioral safety initiatives.
- Planning and delivering onboarding, annual and task-specific training for employees and contractors.
- Maintaining EHS procedures, metrics, dashboards, and management reviews; drive CAPA effectiveness and closure.
Radiological & Nuclear Safety
- Partnering with Radiological Control/Health Physics and/or the company RSO to implement ALARA principles and radiation protection requirements (e.g., 10 CFR Parts 19 & 20).
- Supporting compliance with nuclear material handling, processing, and security controls (e.g., 10 CFR Part 70, material balance areas, inventory, postings, surveys, dosimetry, instrumentation).
- Coordinating readiness activities and responses for NRC/DOE/state inspections and audits; maintaining records and required reports.
Environmental Compliance & Sustainability
- Ensuring compliance with EPA and state environmental rules (e.g., RCRA, CAA, CWA/NPDES, SPCC, SWPPP, TSCA); managing permits, sampling/monitoring and reporting.
- Overseeing hazardous and radioactive waste management, universal waste, and waste minimization; manage manifests and DOT 49 CFR compliance for hazmat shipments.
- Leading pollution prevention, sustainability, and resource efficiency initiatives; manage environmental aspects/impacts and objectives (e.g., ISO 14001 readiness).
Emergency Preparedness
- Leading the site Emergency Response program: plans (ERP), drills/exercises, training, and post-event corrective actions; align with NIMS/ICS.

Leadership & Culture
- Leading and developing an EHS team; providing clear priorities, coaching, and technical guidance.

Education, Qualifications & Required Skills
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Health Physics, Engineering or related fields.
- 7+ years of EHS experience in a regulated industrial, nuclear, or advanced manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA (29 CFR 1910), EPA programs (RCRA/CAA/CWA), NRC 10 CFR (Parts 19/20/70) and DOT 49 CFR hazmat.
- Experience building and auditing EHS programs, conducting risk assessments and leading incident investigations/root cause analysis.
- Effective communication skills (procedures, training, briefings) and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
Preferred
- Experience with nuclear fuel cycle, uranium processing/enrichment, radiological work or DOE/NNSA/NRC-regulated facilities.
- Professional certifications: CLSO (or eligibility), CSP, CIH, CHMM, CHP, PE.
